The collection contains minutes, 1938-1939, of negotiations for an American-French capitulations convention and an American-French commercial treaty concerning the U.S. and French Morocco. There are Childs's memos, 1940, on the war in Palestine and the Zionist movement, memos, 1938-1940, on the political and diplomatic scenes in North Africa, and resumés of telegrams sent, 1941-1942, on the Allied invasion of North Africa. Also included are dispatches to the Department of State, 1941-1943, from Tangier following Childs's appointment as chargé d'affaires after the Spanish occupation of the city. Other items are a letter of thanks, 1921 March 3, to Childs from Woodrow Wilson, a letter, 1950 August 28, from Harry Truman accepting Childs's resignations from his posts in Saudi Arabia and Yemen, and a hand-painted commedation, 1922, in an embroidered cover from his Kazan coworkers in the American Relief Administration. The collection also contains a note of recommendation, 1823 December 16, from Thomas Jefferson for bricklayer Mr. [William B.] Phillips.
